Mid-Senior Social Media Manager & Content Creator

Somerset West / Cape Town (Hybrid, Full-time)

About Mimik

Mimik is a boutique social media and content agency based in Somerset West, working with brands across hospitality, lifestyle, food, wine, wellness, events and media.

We create social media that feels thoughtful, relevant and human. Not generic. Not copy-paste. Not “Happy Friday” with a stock image and a silent crisis in the comments section.

We are looking for a Mid-Senior Social Media Manager & Content Creator to join our team.

About the Role

This role is for a strong social media all-rounder who can think strategically, create confidently and manage client accounts from planning to execution.

You will work across content calendars, copywriting, design, shoot planning, content creation, video editing, photo editing, scheduling, community management, client communication and reporting.

You do not need to be perfect at everything, but you do need to be organised, proactive, detail-aware and comfortable working across the full social media process.

The right person will be able to take ownership of client accounts, manage deadlines, spot content opportunities, apply feedback properly and help move work forward without needing constant hand-holding.

Work Setup & Equipment

This is a hybrid role based between our Somerset West office, work-from-home days, client meetings and shoot days.

You will be expected to:

  • Work from the Mimik office in Somerset West on set office days
  • Work remotely on agreed work-from-home days
  • Travel to Cape Town and surrounding areas for client meetings, shoots and events when needed
  • Attend occasional after-hours events, shoots or activations depending on client requirements
  • A laptop will be provided.

You will also have access to Mimik’s content creation gear, including:

  • Canon R6 Mark II
  • DJI gimbal
  • Basic lighting and audio equipment where needed

You should be comfortable using professional camera gear and confident capturing social-first photo and video content for clients.

Key Responsibilities

Account Ownership

Manage client accounts with ownership, including content planning, deadlines, feedback, approvals, day-to-day communication and follow-through. You should be able to keep work moving, flag issues early and make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Social Media Strategy

Assist in developing and refining social media strategies for clients, including content pillars, content direction, audience insights, platform recommendations and campaign ideas. You should be able to think beyond “what are we posting?” and understand why the content matters.

Content Planning

Develop and manage monthly content calendars that are strategic, practical and aligned with each client’s brand, goals, tone and audience. Content should not be planned just to fill a calendar. It should have a purpose.

Copywriting

Write captions, hooks, carousel copy, on-screen text, reel scripts, community responses and campaign copy in different brand voices.

Strong writing is essential for this role.

Design

Create social media graphics, carousels, stories and basic layouts using Canva, while following brand guidelines and maintaining a strong visual standard. You do not need to be a graphic designer, but you do need to have a good eye.

Shoot Planning

Plan and assist with shoot days, including shot lists, content angles, client requirements and practical shoot preparation. You should be able to think ahead and arrive prepared, not walk into a shoot hoping the content fairy has packed the concept bag.

Content Creation

Capture social-first photo and video content for clients, including behind-the-scenes content, reels, interviews, product shots, venue content, team content, food and drink content, and event content.

Video Editing

Edit reels and short-form videos in Adobe Premiere Pro, including captions, pacing, music, basic transitions and platform-specific formatting. You should understand hooks, pacing and how to make content feel native to social media.

Photo Editing

Edit and colour-correct photos in Adobe Lightroom for use across social media platforms.

Scheduling

Schedule content across platforms using relevant scheduling tools and ensure posts are published accurately and on time.

Community Management

Monitor and respond to comments and DMs where required, engage with audiences and help brands feel active and present online.

Reporting & Insights

Compile monthly social media reports, identify key insights and turn performance into practical recommendations. We are not looking for someone who only reports numbers. We need someone who can explain what worked, what did not, why it matters and what should happen next.

Client Communication

Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, manage feedback, follow up on approvals and help keep work moving. You should be comfortable handling feedback, applying changes accurately and keeping communication clear.

Quality Control

Check your own work carefully before sending it for review or publishing. This includes spelling, grammar, dates, times, tags, links, formatting, client names, captions, visuals, final exports and platform requirements. Attention to detail is non-negotiable.
